Our hearts grieved over our children, and this prayer reflected my state of mind as I prayed over Psalm 77. Our youngest son(30yrs) wanted nothing to do with us and barely communicated. We raised our three children the same way, but one wanders from God’s word. Our oldest son (34) is going through rough times. A month ago, he broke his right wrist by falling from a ladder at work. He is off for four months. Our daughter(32) is physically, mentally, and spiritually exhausted from work. It’s life. It’s hard. It’s real. As parents, we prayed every day for them.
God’s Omniscience
Oh God, “let me remember the son in the night, let me meditate in my heart,” all that You’ve done for me” (v6). I cry to God, knowing He hears my cries and pleas for my son. My soul refuses to be comforted when they’re sinning against Him.
I meditated on how Job worried over his children because they were all sinners without love for God, for they did as they pleased. Oh Father, spare the child of God, claim our children’s life for Yourself that they may live and seek Your word. Let their lips repent of their disobedience. Let him repent to you His bitterness, prideful nature, arrogance, and immoral sexuality. Chased our children with Your grace and mercy and cast out from them this evil spirit, liars, or influencers who made our children wander away from Your Word.
Hear the plea of Your servant, a mother, for her son to be released from all his pridefulness and arrogance and admit his sin and hurts he has endured by the hand of others. Heal our sons and daughters, for nothing is impossible for You. Have compassion on Your servant, and give us the wisdom of Your Word to reach our lost son. Bring him back to us in his right mind.
“The light has come into the world, and people loved the darkeness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wiched thing hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed” ~ John 3:20
God’s Compassion
Forgive us when we worry about our sons’ and daughter’s future. How they will fare in this fallen and wicked world. Oh Lord, forgive Your servant when I doubted Your promise of redemption for our sons and daughters. You have heard every parent’s cries at night for a child when we worried for them. Bring our oldest son to have a genuine heart of forgiveness. Let him cast all his burden upon You. Revealed to him that this idolatrous image he used as a comforter driving the Spirit. You shall be his Comforter. Oh God, protect our children from their own folly. Heal his sufferings and bring them joy, comfort, and strength through Your Word.
