Adoration: God of Vengeance
1O Lord, God of vengeance,
O God of vengeance, shine forth!
2Rise up, O judge of the earth;
repay to the proud what they deserve!
3O Lord, how long shall the wicked,
how long shall the wicked exult?
4They pour out their arrogant words;
all the evildoers boast.
5They crush your people, O Lord,
and afflict your heritage.
6They kill the widow and the sojourner,
and murder the fatherless;
7and they say, “The Lord does not see;
the God of Jacob does not perceive.”
Oh God of Vengeance, Your justice and righteousness shines forth. You will judge the earth and those who have disobeyed, haters of God, evildoers, the wicked, the insolents, and repay to the proud what they deserved (v12). Oh Lord, let Your people no wander away from Your Word, but teach us how to seek you with a whole heart..
You see what evil the wicked are doing toward the poor, vulnerable, widows, the sojourners, the fatherless; for they are defenseless. Our hearts goes to them, but we are not wealthy or powerful enough to help all of them (v5-6).
The Insolent Fools
8Understand, O dullest of the people!
, when will you be wise?
9He who planted the ear, does he not hear?
He who formed the eye, does he not see?
10He who disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke?
He who teaches man knowledge—
11the Lord—knows the thoughts of man,
that they are but a breath.
The insolents are fools who think they can rule this world with power and authorities, but You laugh at their derision and stupidity for you’ve already conquered the world by the power of your death at the Cross, by shedding Your blood to redeem us. Your Word is the double-edge sword and no one can go against it(v9-11).
12Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O Lord,
and whom you teach out of your law,
13to give him rest from days of trouble,
until a pit is dug for the wicked.
14For the Lord will not forsake his people;
he will not abandon his heritage;
15for justice will return to the righteous,
and all the upright in heart will follow it.
Upright in Heart
Oh Lord, we are blessed when we consider Your disciplined in Your steadfast love. When you taught us Your ways through Your word. When we seek wisdom and understanding by reading, study, and meditating on Your word. Oh Lord, do not utterly forsake us, for we do not want to perish in our affliction. The body can be destroyed, but our souls are Yours, O LORD (v.12-15). Let Your justice return to our land that our hearts may not be discouraged.
God my Stronghold
16Who rises up for me against the wicked?
Who stands up for me against evildoers?
17If the Lord had not been my help,
my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence.
18When I thought, “My foot slips,”
your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up.
19When the cares of my heart are many,
your consolations cheer my soul.
20Can wicked rulers be allied with you,
those who frameb injustice by statute?
21They band together against the life of the righteous
and condemn the innocent to death.c
22But the Lord has become my stronghold,
and my God the rock of my refuge.
23He will bring back on them their iniquity
and wipe them out for their wickedness;
the Lord our God will wipe them out.
The wicked surrounds me! Fears and anxieties will drive me away from Your Word; which I do not want to do. Bring me back to You, O LORD, do not forsake Your servant that is trying so hard to stay faithful to you during this time of affliction the world has created. Help me up! When the cares of my heart are many, Your consolation cheer my soul! (v 16-19).
You’ve become my stronghold, my refuge, my rock and I rejoiced knowing You will wipe out all your enemies one day. Then peace and joy will spread like wild fire around the world. Meanwhile, renew and strengthen my soul, that all may be well with me. Amen
Read Psalm 94 and pray over a section. Reopened your eyes, read another section and pray over it. Let your heart be guide by the Holy Spirit. Each one of us are at a different season of our life, or struggling with a sin. To bring all those worries and sinful habits to God, is the beginning of a new day.
Let’s Go Pray!
