Psalm 3

A Prayer of Lament

How do we pray when we are faced with a desperate situation? There are various kinds of distress, and we’re to offer our prayers to God in those moments. We can learn to do the same through the model of genuine faith King David wrote in the Psalm. His relationship with God was unceasingly tested, but David knew God was His only refuge, restoration, salvation, hope, and peace.

Today when you pray over this Psalm, do as King David, who pours your heart to God with confidence, believing he does see your grievance and trials.

Saviour of my Soul

O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; many are saying of my soul,  “There is no salvation for him in God.” Selah

O Father, gracious and merciful God. You’ve seen all our faults and provided a Redeemer to appease your wrath upon our souls. Creator of our souls and body, you give us life. You’re zealous for a people for yourself, loving us beyond what we deserve. Your holiness is above all other gods; your power will deliver us from danger. Those who tempt us to believe we’re condemned and have no hope of salvation are liars and deceivers. All your enemies are a footstool!

Sustainer of my Spirit

But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.I cried aloud to the Lord,and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah 5 I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.6 I will not be afraid of many thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around.

O Jesus, redeemer of my soul, we’re shielded in Your glory. We can lift our heads and cry our prayers of joy, sadness, or distress to You. In the privacy of our homes, we can find peace and sleep like children, for You will sustain us. Let my heart believe our faith is unshakable and build my confidence for the present. Enable us to walk in Him by faith and not by faith.

“Faith isn’t the ability to believe long and far into the misty future. It’s simply taking God at His Word and taking the next step.” ~ Joni Eareckson Tada

Salvation Belongs to the Lord

Arise, O Lord! Save me, O my God! For you strike all my enemies on the cheek; you break the teeth of the wicked. Salvation belongs to the Lord;  your blessing be on your people! Selah

At your feet, we professed our sins, and in our confessions, you’ve rejoiced and forgiven us. You will strike all your enemies in your power and render justice to the unrighteous. Oh, merciful God, your salvation belongs to the Lord. Jesus Christ, the claimer and redeemer of our souls. When in distress, provide a place of refuge in my heart and strengthen our faith.

Psalm 60

God is Against Us!

O God, you have rejected us, broken our defenses; you have been angry; oh, restore us. You have made the land to quake; you have torn it open; repair its breaches, for it totters. You have made your people see hard things; you have given us wine to drink that made us stagger. 4 You have set up a banner for those who fear you, that they may flee to it from the bow. Selah 5 That your beloved ones may be delivered, give salvation by your right hand and answer us!

Father in Heaven, your holiness has clashed with our disobedience and the hardness of our hearts. We would rather live in a rebellious mind than submit to your will. With great remorse and shame, we bring ourselves. We confess in a genuinely repentant heart and ask You to forgive and restore us to You.

You’ve learned from king David and Job that we can wander away from You as individuals. When a nation has rejected you and its once religious institutions are now profanity of your name and rejecting Your teachings. Even believed saved by your grace are deceived and wander away further into the sin of disobedience, sexual immorality, murderous passion, and greed. Going as far as casting out the name of Jesus Christ our Savior and the bible as it was a pure mythical story. Oh, my heart grieved at all of this. How have we gone this far in a short time? Where does it stop? O Lord, let Your grace and mercy abound and restore our hearts to You.

God Has Spoken in His Holiness

God has spoken in his holiness: “With exultation, I will divide up Shechem and portion out the Vale of Succoth. 7 Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet; Judah is my scepter. 8 Moab is my washbasin; upon Edom, I cast my shoe; over Philistia, I shout in triumph.”

God spoke in his holiness and took for himself a people who are zealous for Him. Always leaving a redeemer through every generation in the hope of salvation for His people. It should be of great assurance, hope, and comfort knowing that God’s grace is at work even today! If you’re saved by His grace and have wandered away from Him, either you haven’t read the Scripture, prayed, believed, or gone to church in a while, repent and turn your face upon Jesus Christ, your Savior.

Who Will Lead Me?

Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom? 10 Have you not rejected us, O God? You do not go forth, O God, with our armies.11 Oh, grant us help against the foe, for vain is the salvation of man! 12 With God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes.

My Beloved Savior, who can bring me closer to You if not God himself? If our faith is doubtful, misguided, complacent, or wondered in an ungodly manner, forgive us and let the Holy Spirit convince us through your word and return to You in the hope of reconciliation. “With God, we shall do valiantly.”

I pray our nations of their wrongdoing and embrace the Christian value we once lived for. If not, return to us quickly, O God!

In 2022, I used the ACTS as a springboard for my prayer to disciple my mind from wandering off. Recently, I’ve journaled and prayed over the first 6 chapters of the book of Romans. What a great reward and spiritual food for the soul! It’s taking me a bit longer because I’ve underlined passages in my Bible, journaled my prayers, and printed a copy for additional note-taking. This is in no way a Bible study. Just searching for God’s beautiful attributes and promises. Teaching me how to live my Christian life to His glory. Here are the four additional main focuses I’m looking for:

  • God’s attributes
  • His promises
  • Our responsibility
  • Pray

What attributes of God can you find in Psalm 60? Those are the ones I found.

  • Sovereign, wrath, powerful, delivers, holy, provider, protector, redeemer, apply justice.

Psalm 59

God of Israel

Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; protect me from those who rise up against me; 2 deliver me from those who work evil, and save me from bloodthirsty men.3 For behold, they lie in wait for my life; fierce men stir up strife against me. For no transgression or sin of mine, O Lord, 4 for no fault of mine, they run and make ready. Awake, come to meet me, and see! 5 You, Lord God of hosts, are God of Israel. Rouse yourself to punish all the nations; spare none of those who treacherously plot evil. Selah

O my God, you’ve delivered, protected, and saved Israel from bloodthirsty men. Fierce men that strife against your beloved ones. You see the unrighteous injustice and their greedy thirst for power over all people while we cry and lift our hands in supplications for the harm done to us. Their treacherous plot for evil has crushed our spirit, mind, and life beyond despair. Clinging to your robe of grace is my only hope that this evil will not last forever.

God will Triumph

Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city.7 There they are, bellowing with their mouths with swords in their lips—for “Who,” they think, “will hear us?”
8 But you, O Lord, laugh at them; you hold all the nations in derision. 9 O my Strength, I will watch for you, for you, O God, are my fortress. 10 My God in his steadfast love will meet me; God will let me look in triumph on my enemies.

Our hearts should rejoice to know that God of heavens laughs at his enemies, which is ours. O God, you hold all the nations in derision because they disobeyed your laws and statutes. None seek or loves You. Your enemies have infiltered our churches, preaching a false gospel, proclaiming a prosperity gospel that has no salvation or hopes for the people of God. Let my strength seek refuge in Your words and guide our mouths from bellowing cruel words and deeds toward our Christian friends. We will cling to the promises of Your steadfast love that endures forever.

O Lord, our shield!

Kill them not, lest my people forget; make them totter by your power and bring them down, O Lord, our shield! 12 For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips,  let them be trapped in their pride. For the cursing and lies that they utter, 13 consume them in wrath; consume them till they are no more,
that they may know that God rules over Jacob  to the ends of the earth. Selah

Your power is over all the nation, O Lord; their sins will be trapped in their pride. Our enemies are Yours for the cursed and lied, bringing Your mighty wrath upon themselves. O Sweet Jesus, you’ve appeased the Father’s wrath by offering yourself for our sins. We are no better than our enemies if we act and curse. We’ve been redeemed and set apart for better things by your grace. Holy Spirit, be my shield when trouble comes against us and give us strength and patience to endure it.

God my Fortress

14 Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city. 15 They wander about for food and growl if they do not get their fill. 16 But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress. 17 O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love.

Even when our hearts if not filled with joy and unceasing prayer, I will sing of Your strength and steadfast love. Let our days of distress be a mist that shall pass quickly. God is my fortress, a solid rock for strengthening my soul, heart, and body. A place we should seek to renew our hearts and minds. God is my Strenght, for only He knows my most profound weakness and strength and pushes us forward in our spiritual growth. Changing us to be His, for he loves us. God is our refuge of mercies and grace. Always forgiving and loving us.

Psalm 58

Prince George, B.C 2015

After reading this psalm twice, I wondered how to pray over it. King David called upon God to destroy his enemies and was blunt. If you watch those older movies where it’s obvious the one dressed in black is the villain character, and the one dressed in lighter clothing is the hero. A version of good and evil, but here it’s king David’s prayer over his enemies, which are also God’s enemies.

What are God’s attributes, his promises, and our responsibilities in all this? Are we to sharpen our weapons and engage in war when surrounded by enemies? That was for king David and not for us. Right? Why not skip this psalm and move to the next one instead of dreading this psalm? Because in all seasons, we pray increasingly. Then I asked myself, who is my enemy? Without hesitation, I knew it was Satan and all his schemers, hating God’s saints.

Gods of this World

Do you indeed decree what is right, you gods? Do you judge the children of man uprightly? 2 No, in your hearts you devise wrongs; your hands deal out violence on earth.

O Father, the gods of this world are like a roaring lion devouring your saints. Their unceasing wrongs and violence on earth have reached the surface of this world, and there is no place to hide. My refuge is in your stronghold where your steadfast love and righteousness abound. You heard my cries for justice, and revenge is Yours. The gods of this world manipulated decrees and judged unrighteously, for their hearts are filled with greed, sexual immorality, and a thirst for power.

You are the truth, God. The all-powerful God in this world. All people will bow at your feet. You’re reigning on the throne of grace and mercy. Your saving grace never failed to call people to You. Your redeeming plan of salvation is unfailing. You’re the lover of our souls. At the Cross of Calvary, our soul finds refuge.

The Cunning Enchanter

3 The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray from birth, speaking lies. 4 They have venom like the venom of a serpent, like the deaf adder that stops its ear, 5 so that it does not hear the voice of charmers or of the cunning enchanter.

O Jesus strengthened our hearts so we wouldn’t fear those who hate us. Let us cling to you when the venom of the wicket strikes with lies and deceit. Leading us away from reading your Word or our time alone in prayer with You, or enjoying our relationship with other Christians. Let your servant wait with courage till your return. The cunning Enchanter is a god of deception whose mouth craves my destruction. In Your arms, my soul rests and finds peace, for we know you’re the Almighty God.

He Aimed His Arrows

6 O God, break the teeth in their mouths; tear out the fangs of the young lions, O Lord! 7 Let them vanish like water that runs away;when he aims his arrows, let them be blunted. 8 Let them be like the snail that dissolves into slime, like the stillborn child who never sees the sun. 9 Sooner than your pots can feel the heat of thorns,whether green or ablaze, may he sweep them away!

In Your promises, our hope rest. Jesus Christ, our Savior, has done the work of deliverance and redemption, crushing Satan’s head. Oh, what a powerful sign of love you’ve for us, Jesus. If my feet wandered away because of our weak mind, forgive us and call us back to our knees in repentance. We’re the children of God in who we believe Jesus Christ, ‘My heart is steadfast for God! I will sing and make melody!’

God is Judge

10 The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he will bathe his feet in the blood of the wicked. 11 Mankind will say, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on earth.”
Footnotes

Our reward for the righteous is with God, who judges on earth. We cried out to God Most High for justice, for our nations have rejected Jesus Christ, cast out God from every institution, and live their lives in open disobedience. Be merciful to us, O God, in your anger, do not destroy us, for we are like children scattered and needing a Shepherd. Revive our churches. Teach us discernment and not to fall into sin. Protect from evil and not live and speak lies. Deliverer from the hold of deception. Let Your steadfast love dwell in our hearts.

Psalm 57

Read Psalm 57 and pray over it before reading my prayer.

His Purpose for Me

Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by. 2 I cry out to God Most High,
to God who fulfills his purpose for me. 3He will send from heaven and save me; he will put to shame him who tramples on me. Selah. God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness!

In Your mercy, I take refuge for Your steadfast love to endure forever. In the shadow of your wing, I seek comfort, hope, and peace, for there is none better than yours. My hope rests solemnly on the atonement of Jesus Christ upon the cross. When I lifted my voice and cried to my holy King, you saw me and reached down from heaven and saved me. You’re God Most High, one who fulfills His purpose for me. Our souls wait and will love your Word and His truth.

Glorify Him Above all People

4My soul is in the midst of lions; I lie down amid fiery beasts—the children of man, whose teeth are spears and arrows,whose tongues are sharp swords. 5Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth! 6They set a net for my steps; my soul was bowed down. They dug a pit in my way,but they have fallen into it themselves. Selah

O Jesus, none is more exalted than You above the heavens and on the earth. Your name shall be praised continually, for your glory covers all the world. Your atonement for our sins is done, and when you said, “It’s finished!” You have appeased the wrath of God, giving us complete confidence that we may now enter the throne of grace with our prayer. At times, we can be responded to because of the sharp words or deeds others are pressing against us. I pray, Holy Spirit, you gave us strength to endure it with a faith worthy of Christ’s name. Christ has become our perfect high priest.

My heart is Steadfast!

7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast! I will sing and make melody! 8 Awake, my glory!
Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn! 9 I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. 10 For your steadfast love is great to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. 11Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!

Be exalted, O God, when our voices sing hymns of praises on Sunday or when we do it in our car while travelling to work, at home with our children or alone when joy fills our hearts. With our lips, we’ll thank you for your enduring steadfastness, faithfulness, mercies, slowness to anger, and the gospel given to us through your words. There are no other gods in who I can take refuge. Awake my heart to your glory, O God; let our hearts dwell on your promises.

Psalm 56

Chiliwack, B.C. 2014

In God I Trust

1Be gracious to me, O God, for man tramples on me; all day long, an attacker oppresses me;
2 my enemies trample on me all day long, for many attack me proudly.
3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
4 In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?

O God, be gracious to me, your servant. Show me how to stand firm in your word; through all my trials, you will also provide consolation. None like You has power and authority over everything, and I must remember you’ve claimed our souls at the cross of Calvary. When your lips declared, “It’s finished,” it fulfilled your promise of removing God’s wrath upon us. To forgive all our sins. To cleanse us and claim us as your own people.

My Deliverer

5 All day long, they injure my cause; all their thoughts are against me for evil.
6 They stir up strife, they lurk; they watch my steps as they have waited for my life.
7 For their crime, will they escape? In wrath cast down the peoples, O God!

You will cast down all your enemies in Your wrath, O God. None will bow their knees to the King of kings. Let my soul wait in silence for your return, trusting with our hearts and mind in your promises. Not let these trouble times affect our faith, but come at the cross with hope, knowing this is just a little time to bear till your return.

I Shall Not be Afraid

8You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book? 9 Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call. This I know, that God is for me. 10In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise,
11in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?

O Spirit, you see my weakness and faults, forgive your servant and guide my steps to be nearer Jesus Christ in prayer and deeds. Give us a zeal to read and study your word, for it’s excellent and profitable for our mind and soul. What can a man/woman do to me? Sometimes we’re afraid because we cannot control or change the situation that engulfed us in despair. But I must remember to trust and obey you. For your power is above all other gods and wicket men. We may not understand everything that is going on in our life. Holy Spirit, teach us how to follow our Savior’s example of patience, loving, enduring, and barring our cross daily.

Walk with God

12 I must perform my vows to you, O God; I will render thank offerings to you.
13 For you have delivered my soul from death, yes, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.

“O Jesus, you’ve saved us from death by delivering us from the wrath of God. Let us walk before You in the righteousness that was imputed to us by Christ. My beautiful Savior, how can our hearts not desire to seek fellowship with You? Forgive my lack of faithfulness toward you, O God, and call us back to your throne of grace like a lost sheep. Let us walk in the lift of life that is in You.”“I must perform my vows to You, O God,” and I will render thank-offering with my lips.”O Jesus, you’ve saved us from death by delivering us from the wrath of God. Let us walk before You in the righteousness that was imputed to us by Christ. My beautiful Savior, how can our hearts not desire to seek fellowship with You? PSALM 55

Chilliwack, B.C. 2014

Give Ear to My Prayer

1 Give ear to my prayer, O God, and hide not yourself from my plea for mercy!
2 Attend to me, and answer me; I am restless in my complaint and I moan,
3 because of the noise of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked.
For they drop trouble upon me, and in anger they bear a grudge against me.

O God, You’ve heard all my prayers and attended to my needs. Even if I doubted you’d answered my prayer, you’ve walked with me in my restlessness and complaints. Trouble is upon us from the begging, but you never fail to strengthen us in our weakness. In God alone will I trust, for you are my rock, my salvation, and my fortress. In God, I will take refuge.

Overwhelmed by Fears

4 My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen upon me.
5 Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror overwhelms me.
6 And I say, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest;
7 yes, I would wander far away; I would lodge in the wilderness; Selah
8 I would hurry to find a shelter from the raging wind and tempest.”

Redeemer of my soul, I will find peace and rest in your word. All the nations have cast down their terrors of death upon your people (fearmongering), horror (wars and famines), and fear what I cannot control (wicket laws). Forgive your servant for seeking refuge in places where there is none. Forgive your servant for not trusting entirely in your triumph over your enemies. You have already won! It is finished! Those should be on my lips all day long.

Conquering my Fears and Doubts

9 Destroy, O Lord, divide their tongues; for I see violence and strife in the city.
10 Day and night, they go around it on its walls, and iniquity and trouble are within it;
11 ruin is in its midst; oppression and fraud do not depart from its marketplace.

Holy Spirit, guard my mind against unwanted earthly possessions and unhealthy food for my body and mind. Give me the courage to face and resist cultural attacks that could weaken my faith. Crushed all temptations that rose in my mind so I wouldn’t act upon them and sin against you.

Hurt by a Friend

12 For it is not an enemy who taunts me—then I could bear it; it is not an adversary who deals insolently with me—then I could hide from him.
13 But it is you, a man, my equal, my companion, my familiar friend.
14 We used to take sweet counsel together; within God’s house we walked in the throng.
15 Let death steal over them; let them go down to Sheol alive; for evil is in their dwelling place and in their heart.

O Jesus, my Friend and Brother, I’m yours, and you’re mine. Heal the pangs of my heart that suffered betrayal from a friend or family member. Let not my heart harden over those hurts and where there is no possible reconciliation. It is easier to forgive an acquaintance who isn’t close to my heart than one who was a Christian friend. Free my heart and mind from this attitude that could ruin my relationship with You.

Humble my Heart

16 But I call to God, and the Lord will save me. 17 Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan, and he hears my voice.18 He redeems my soul in safety from the battle that I wage, for many are arrayed against me.
19 God will give ear and humble them, he who is enthroned from of old, Selah
because they do not change and do not fear God.

My humbleness, prayers, and devotion come from you, O God, for who I will live in hope and joy. You’re enthroned, and the battle is already won! You heard whines and moaning wages. Still, you love me. The warfare raged before I was conceived in the womb of my mother. By my name, you’ve called me. My soul belongs to You. You’re my warrior, my God, who has great power and sovereignty over this entire world.

God will Sustain Us

20 My companionb stretched out his hand against his friends; he violated his covenant.
21 His speech was smooth as butter, yet war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil,
yet they were drawn swords. 22 Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved. 23 But you, O God, will cast them down
into the pit of destruction; men of blood and treachery shall not live out half their days.
But I will trust in you.

Oh, my Beautiful Savior, in you will I trust. You’ve died for me; nobody will love me more than You. Teach my heart, wanting to be near You. Sing praise reflecting your holiness, sovereignty, and hope in You. Let each psalm I pray over encourage my heart, mind, and soul to desire to KNOW you more. May the wisdom of your Word spread like wildfire in the hearts of all your people. Stir our hearts, O God! Revive our land! Bring salvation to all people.

Psalm 54

Father in heaven, may my heart and lips glorify you, Son Jesus, through this psalm. Holy Spirit, guide my heart, mind, and lips as I pray over this psalm. Jesus, show your promises as I read and pray over the Scripture so that I may share your testimonies with others to strengthen their faith and encourage them to love you more.

God is Always with Me

O God, save me by your name,  and vindicate me by your might.
O God, hear my prayer; give ear to the words of my mouth.
3 For strangers have risen against me; ruthless men seek my life; they do not set God before themselves.
Selah

O Father, you are always with us since the beginning of times, belonging to the Father, who jealously protected our souls. Your mercy and goodness give us a purpose for our lives. You’ve been vindicated by the blood of Jesus Christ, our Savior. The ultimate and perfect sacrifice, appeasing the wrath of God.

O Spirit, you’ve heard our prayer and are patiently waiting for us to change, giving us this excellent opportunity to be sanctified in our daily struggles. Holy Spirit, you’ve tested our faith, calling us to trust Him. Let the words of my mouth tell the truth, giving a testimony of God’s attributes rather than boasting about myself.

 Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

Deuteronomy 31:6

O Jesus, there will always be ruthless men and women planning to thrust us down from our faith. Flashing their deceitful falsehood at us while desiring to live according to your commandments, statutes, and testimonies. Your love and grace strengthened our faith so that it would not waver. Like a child of God, we seek Your constant assurance that our hope of eternal life is with you. In You, we take refuge! (Psalm 91:1-2)

God is my Helper

4 Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life.
5 He will return the evil to my enemies; in your faithfulness put an end to them.

On Your promises, my soul rest. Not wanted else but be satisfied in Your word. Feed my mind with Your wisdom and the proper knowledge of Your word that my faithfulness toward You never ceased to amaze You. My good Sherperd, you upheld and gave me life (John 3:16). I shall not return evil to those who persecuted or harrassed me, but forgive them as you have forgiven me.

The Lord your God is in your midst,
    a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
    he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.

Zephaniah 3:17

God is Good

6 With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you; I will give thanks to your name, O Lord, for it is good.
7 For he has delivered me from every trouble, and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.

My beautiful Savior and King, come back to me! Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good (Psalm 136:1-3). Your steadfast love endures forever, and with free will, I will offer You songs of praise in Your holy name. Only in You can I trust, for you have delivered me from the wrath of God. My eyes and hands are lifted up, tears upon my cheeks with our hearts in sorrow, saying, “How long, O Lord?” Forgive my impatience for your return.

The voice of my beloved!
    Behold, he comes,
leaping over the mountains,
    bounding over the hills.

Psalm 53

Pointe Pelee, On, Winter 2018

Lord’s Holiness

The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord’s throne is in heaven; his eyes see, and his eyelids test the children of man(Psalm 11:4). I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, and I shall not be shaken (Psalm 16:8). I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliver, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge (Psalm 18:1-2). The Lord’s splendour of holiness shines brighter than the sun in this darkened world. O Lord, let your marvellous light dwell upon my soul so that all may be well with me.

The Foolish Heart (v.1)

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
    They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity;
    there is none who does good.

The unrighteous and ungodly fused their hearts to abominable iniquity and professed with their mouths that there is no God. Knowing well that there is a God but denying Him rather than obeying Him. I shall look upon the goodness of God and wait for Him all my life. Trusting in his promises of redemption, hope, and rest. His steadfast love is poured upon my soul through the holy Scripture. Overwhelmed by this secured love he offered him by His grace and mercy, I lifted my voice in a song of praises. Nobody can snatch me from His hands, “for our hearts is glad in HIm because I trust his holy name” (Psalm 33:20).

Not Seeking God (v.2-3)

2 God looks down from heaven
    on the children of man
to see if there are any who understand,
    who seek after God

3 They have all fallen away;
    together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
    not even one.

O Lord, You see all people from Your heavenly throne. Seeing the children of man’s heart and mind corrupted. All have sinned and fallen short of Your glory. From heaven, you see those who have acted unrighteously and those who were saved by Your grace through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Holy Spirit, teach and guide my steps in honouring God in living a godly life for Him.

“For my people are foolish;
    they know me not;
they are stupid children;
    they have no understanding.
They are ‘wise’—in doing evil!
    But how to do good they know not.”

Jeremiah 4:22

Calling Upon God (v.4)

4 Have those who work evil no knowledge,
    who eat up my people as they eat bread,
    and do not call upon God?

O Lord, let my prayers accent Your heavenly throne with a sweet aroma that pleases You. My heart finds wisdom and understanding when I pray, read, and share the Scripture with others. I’m a grateful child of God, benefiting from your steadfast love, grace, provision, compassion and love. When I failed in doing good, you picked me up, tested my faith, and set me back on my two feet. You’ve changed my temperament, heart, and mind in humbling myself to You rather than being stubborn and ungodly.

Let Not Terror Deceived You (v.5)

5 There they are, in great terror,
    where there is no terror!
For God scatters the bones of him who encamps against you;
    you put them to shame, for God has rejected them.

The ungodly and unrighteous are guilty of their own iniquities and shall be judged by the Heavenly God. A terror of His judgement upon their soul shall overwhelm them, and all knees shall bow to God. They weren’t ashamed to reject God. O Lord, let my lips never be ashamed in proclaiming the gospel to the lost souls. Search my heart and test me with a gentle hand, for I cannot endure much in the spirit.

Rejoiced! (v.6)

6 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
    When God restores the fortunes of his people,
    let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

O Lord, salvation has come for all people! (John 3:16). Let us declare the gospel to all nations, never ceasing to be afraid of the outcomes. You’ve restored your Saints to Christ so we may live peacefully with You. I rejoice, and I’m glad you are my God and Savior.

Psalm 52

Steadfast Love of God

Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man? The steadfast love of God endures all the day.
Your tongue plots destruction, like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit.
You love evil more than good,and lying more than speaking what is right. Selah

O Father, your steadfast love endures forever. Your grace rained on the weak and the strong, calling us to repentance of sin. You gave us hope of salvation through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Your laws guard our souls against falling away from our tested faith.

Those who boast of evil, plot destruction, and love themselves more than Your word, are deceiving themselves. The unrighteous and unbelievers will not inherit a place in heaven but will receive your divine justice in this life or at your return. O Mighty God, your saving grace reaches the unsaved souls, and no gates can stop it.

O Deceitful Tongue!

4 You love all words that devour,  O deceitful tongue. 5 But God will break you down forever;
he will snatch and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah

My Savior and Brother, guard my heart against tearing another person down. Holy Spirit, tame and bridle my tongue not to cause pain to my brothers and sisters. It is a fact that unbelievers can hurt us deeply, and I expect it, but when we hurt a brother or sister in Christ, it causes a deeper grievance. Oh, Divine God, protect us from those who snatch and tear down with deceitful tongues. You taught us how to be loving, kind, and self-controlled through your Word (Galatians 5). For I cannot rein all my ungodly and impure thoughts, but your steadfast love calls me daily to serve my King, and I shall bow my knees once aging and ask for forgiveness. Give me strength! Give me strength. For I must carry my cross!

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.”

Galatians 5:16-17

Trust in God

6 The righteous shall see and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying,
7 “See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction!

Oh righteous One, do not fear but laugh at those who mock, despise and shine you away. For Jesus Christ is your Friend and cares for you. In the end, you will rejoice with Christ in his glory and see how much all his promises were to redeem a people for his own. I thanked God, he saved my soul from destruction, and nobody can snatch me from his divine’s hands. I’m the daughter of a mighty heavenly King.

My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.”

John 10:29

House of God

”But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever. 9 I will thank you forever, because you have done it. I will wait for your name, for it is good, in the presence of the god.

I rejoiced in my Redeemer, knowing his steadfast love endures forever. My heart desires to serve my King, praying He teaches me understanding and wisdom from the Scriptures. To develop solid relationships with my brothers and sisters, seeking accountability, comfort, and gentle rebukes. O Lord, you’ve tested my faith a thousand times. You loved me. Corrected me, Carried me. Called me back into your arms (Word). Oh, Jesus, you taught me how to carry my cross and thankful I’ve grown spiritually. You’ve claimed, purchased, and redeemed my soul, and now I’m worthy of presenting myself to the Father.

Heaven and earth bow to You
I am Your child; I’ve been reconciled
With tender affection, You drew me to You

I will rejoice and will sing
For the One who has made me has saved me
